Pipe pulling heads

Pulling heads for pipe from 25 to 355 mm outside diameter — clamp-in heads with or without cap, and welding heads.

The product

The link between the reamer and the pipe

A pulling head is what connects the product pipe to the swivel behind the reamer when the pipe is pulled into the bore. It has to hold the full pulling force and let go again afterwards without damaging the pipe end.

The clamp-in heads go into the pipe end and grip the inside wall, with an eye bolt on top for the swivel. They are easy to handle and are fitted and removed on site without any additional tools — with a cap when the pipe end must be sealed during the pull, without when it need not be.

The welding heads are welded onto the pipe end instead and become part of the pipe string for the pull. One head fits pipe SDR 7.4, 11 and 17, and from 110 mm the pulling eye is reinforced. Larger diameters and other pulling eyes are made to order.

  • Load capacity from 0.8 to 32 tonnes in straight pull
  • Clamp-in heads fitted without any additional tools
  • Standard sizes and spare parts available from stock
Sizes

Sizes, clamping ranges and load capacity

Choose the type, then the size by the outside diameter of the pipe. For the clamp-in heads the clamping range is the approximate inside diameter the head grips. Press Get quote on any row and we come back with a quote, stock and lead time.

With cap

Clamps inside the pipe, with a cap that seals the pipe end during the pull. Seventeen sizes, 32 to 355 mm pipe outside diameter.

Spare parts — heads with cap

For the heads with cap (part numbers ending -200). The numbers refer to the drawing. A spare-part order number is RE, the three-digit pipe size of the head and the suffix in the table — for a 110 mm head: RE 110 + the suffix. Spare parts for the heads without cap are not available at the moment.

Welding heads

Seventeen sizes, 32 to 355 mm pipe outside diameter. The head has three stepped seats, for pipe SDR 7.4, 11 and 17, so one head fits all three wall thicknesses. Up to 90 mm the part number ends -500; from 110 mm it ends -550 and the head has a reinforced pulling eye.

Load capacity is the working load limit (WLL) in straight pull according to the manufacturer's data. Data per the manufacturer's data sheet — confirm pipe size and wall thickness before ordering.

Made to order

Custom welding heads

Need a larger diameter or a different pulling eye? Welding heads can be made to order — for pipe larger than the standard range, and with another pulling eye such as the bolted pulling lugs shown here.

  • Larger pipe diameters than the standard range
  • Other pulling eyes, for example a bolted pulling lug
  • Tell us the pipe outside diameter, the SDR and the pulling load and we quote it
